GUWAHATI, Dec 26: Assam BJP may announce its first list of candidates for 40 Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) for the 2016 Assembly elections on the eve of  Magh Bihu, that is in mid-January.

This does not mean that the process of selection of candidates is over in the party. According to party sources, the 40 candidates likely to be med in mid-January will only include LACs where there are no tug-of-war over party tickets. According  to the sources, the candidates of 40 seats have already been filized, and what remains to be done is just formality – the seal of the election magement committee.

With hiccups in the party on the declaration probable candidates in four LACs in Guwahati, the party had to entrust leaders for making five-candidate lists as probables against  each of the 126 LACs in the State even as there were such lists prepared earlier. The process of making the fresh panels is still going on even as the last date of submission (December 20) of the lists is over, and  this has led the party leaders to me the candidates of 40 LACs without such hiccups. When the lists of probable candidates of the remaining 86 LACs will be submitted to the election magement committee, it will consider both sets of lists of probable candidates (the old and the new one) while publishing the fil list.
