BJP ticket seekers break all-time record in Assam

GUWAHATI, June 20: A record has been scripted by the seekers of BJP tickets for the Legislative Assembly polls slated for 2016 in Assam. So far over 3,000 applications seeking party tickets from 126 LACs in the State have been received. This is even though no application is sought from the end of the central committee of the party.

Such a statistics came to light during the recent two-day State executive committee meeting of the party. As though the tickets are up for grabs, there are many applications for tickets in constituencies where there are sitting MLAs of the party are ticket contenders. The upbeat party leadership feels that this is a clear-cut sign of boost for the party that it has more takers in Assam nowadays.    

Tickets from Guwahati East constituency have been sought by State party spokesperson Rupam Goswami and MP Bijoya Chakraborty's daughter Suman Haripriya. The two and many others sought party tickets from the constituency against BJP's State president Siddhartha Bhattacharyya's claim of party ticket from there. Bhattacharyya made it to Dispur from this constituency in the last Assembly elections in the State.

Likewise Patacharkuchi, Dibrugarh, Kamalpur, Doomdooma and Sorbhog are the constituencies where the sitting MLAs of the party are contenders for party tickets.

Guwahati West LAC has BJP ticket seekers like Rajkumar Sarma, Mriganka Barman, Queen Ojha, Ashoke Singal, Pradip Thakuria and others.

While against former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta's Barhampur LAC, the BJP has Jitu Goswami as a ticket seeker, against minister Rakibul Hussain's Samaguri the Saffron party has Momin Aowal as a ticket seeker. While the party has Rashmi Rekha Bora, Chabin Rajkhowa, Phani Bora and others as ticket seekers from Lakhimpur LAC, Sailen Sonowal and Binod Kombang and others have sought party ticket from Dhemaji LAC. Among others, Dillip Saikia has sought BJP ticket from lbari LAC, while rayan Deka and ren Talukdar have sought tickets from Borkhetri. Diplu Ranjan Sarma has sought party ticket from Kaliabor LAC from where AGP's Keshab Mahanta has made it to the Assembly in the last Assembly elections. Pabitra Margherita and Lakshya Konwar have sought BJP tickets from Mergherita where Congress stalwart Pradyut Bordoloi made it to the State Assembly in the last Assembly elections. While cine actor Jatin Mali has sought party ticket from gaon, actor Tofique Rahman has sought BJP ticket from Chhaygaon and Prahjad Tasha and Teros Goala have sought tickets from Lahowal where prominent Congress leader Prithibi Majhi made it to the State Assembly from.
