BJYM bows to take Dispur's agenda to booths in State

GUWAHATI, June 29: The State unit of the Bharatiya Jata Yuba Morcha (BJYM) has bowed to carry forwards Assam Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal’s three-pronged development route – to make Assam free from foreigners, free from corruption and free from pollution – and other welfare schemes of the State government and the Centre to the booth-level.

The State BJYM unit has its first executive meeting at ITA Centre of Performing Arts at Machkhowa in the city after the BJP making it to Dispur. BJYM’s state in-charge Saurav Sikdar was present at the meeting.

Talking to newsmen later in the day, State BJYM president Dipu Ranjan Sarma said: “We’re determined to take the State BJP’s theme agenda to the people. In our parlance, a booth is a home for its citizens. We’re going to making the ‘my booth is my home’ campaign reach every nook and corner of the State. According to this campaign, every BJYM member has to bring forth the problems afflicting his booth, and take central and state’s schemes to the people of his/her booth. In order to make Assam free from pollution, the BJYM members will remain alert 24x7. Unlike the youth wing of the Congress the leaders of which were engaged in running a syndicate raj in the State, we’re going to engage ourselves in ensuring skill development among the youth of the State. We’re here to ensure that most of the businesses in the state are being tackled by the indigenous youths of the State.”

They said that on July 10 they are going to felicitate the HSLC and HS rank holders and UPSC crackers at a function in the city. “We’ll also have a session with students who failed in HSLC or HS examitions so as to find out areas in which they are skilled and make their rehabilitation accordingly,” they said.

When asked on their comment on the first Cabinet meeting of Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal not taking any decision on freeing Xatra lands from encroachers, the BJYM leaders said: “Our stance on Xatra land still stands. As many as 7,000 bighas of the 39 Xatras in the State have been encroached upon illegally. The Chief Minister has started measures to free Xatra lands in the State.”  

When asked on the auctioning of some oilfields of the State, they said: “There are some leaders in Assam who have been agitating only for the sake of agitation. They have no mass base and what they want to propagate among the people have no strong reasons. So far the government hasn’t taken any decision that may go against the interest of the State. The Centre and the State Government have taken the decision without affecting the interest of Assam.”
