Bongaigaon, Agthori track survey over

GUWAHATI, March 21: Survey of the long-pending 135-km Bongaigaon-Barpeta Town-Hajo-Agthori Railway Project has been over and the survey report is being examined by the Ministry.

Informing the Lok Sabha of this on Wednesday, Union Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain said: “Reconissance engineering-cum-traffic survey for new broad gauge line between Bongaigaon and Agthori via Barpeta Town, Hajo, Sarthebari (135.60 km) has been completed and the survey report has been received in January 2018. The cost of the project, as per the survey report, assessed is Rs 3336.19 crore with rate of return (-)8.18 per cent. The survey report is under examition.” Gohain informed the Lok Sabha of this while replying to an un-starred question from AIUDF MP Sirajuddin Ajmal. He wanted to know the state of the new railway line to Barpeta Town. Talking to newsmen outside the House, Ajmal welcomed the progress as the demand has been a long-lending one. “Being included in the railway map is bound to develop the areas to be connected by the new track,” Ajmal said.
