Book fair pulling crowds

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Nov 10: The 19th Northeast Book Fair currently underway at Chandmari AEI field has been able to pull young bookworms. The response makes it clear that the much-talked-about dent on book reading from internet browsing is not that severe as it is believed.

Speaking to The Sentinel, a committee member said: “This year the response is very good. Publicity is going great. Youths are showing interest in every interactive session. A large number of participants were seen in the interaction with Durjoy Datta. We’re happy to get this response. Last year one lakh tickets were sold, besides the issuance of 15,000 VIP passes. This year we’re hopeful of going one better.”

A few participants say that the response is better than last year. Fictions are being sold more. The books of Durjoy Datta, voneel Chakraborty and a few others are on demand among youths.

Schools students are seen thronging the book fair. The book stall from Bangladesh is also pulling crowed. Cultural nites are organized every day with participation from college and school students, among others.
