GUWAHATI, Jan 1: A book on the status of population growth in the state and the country, ‘Jabisforar Pom Khedi’ written by Dr Ilias Ali was released by intellectual Hiren Gohain in Guwahati Press Club today.

Gohain said: “Population growth was always a matter of issue in our state and the country. Population growth doesn’t depend on the ture but, it is the people themselves who can control birth rate and stop the increasing of population. The rural areas of our state are in very pathetic condition. There is none who can guide the illiterate people about birth control. The medical facilities are also very poor in the rural areas, for which people can’t take good care of their people and make them aware of modern facilities for population control.”

“Illegal immigration into the state is another big reason of population boom. The census report of 2011 shows clearly the effect of illegal immigrants into the state, which became another problem for us. No political party has ever taken any initiative to control immigration and so, the state has become a free place for the immigrants. Ali’s book will reveal many unknown facts about the reason of population increasing in our state, and will be an important evidence for the future generation,” Gohain said.

The book was published by Maleka Foundation. The iuguration programme was presided over by Sibath Barman, and attended by intellectuals like Hemen Das, Anta Kalita and others.
