GUWAHATI, Oct 5: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and MP Ripun Bora today said that after the BJP coming to power cases against as many as 157 Congress leaders, including district leaders, have been registered.

Talking to newsmen at Rajiv Bhavan in the city today, Bora said: “This is coercing. If the BJP government doesn’t stop such coercing measures, we’ll be compelled to take to the streets. When we’re in power, we never took such coercing action against the leaders of the Opposition parties.”

Bora further said: “When Sarbanda Sonowal became the Chief Minister of the State, Prime Minister rendra Modi was on record saying that ‘Sarbanda is set to bring anda (cheer) among the people of Assam. However, the ground reality is such that ‘the people of Assam are niranda (a worried lot) in this festive season. While contractors are yet to get their bills cleared, contractual workers in P&RD and 8,000 contractual high school teachers are yet to get their salaries.”
