GUWAHATI, Feb 26: Veteran jourlist Homen Borgohain today received the Airam Nunisha Sangbadikota Jibonjora Sadho Bota, 2016 at a function in the city today.

The family members of jourlist Airam Nunisha has been giving away the award since 2011, a year after the demise of the jourlist. The award carries a Dimasa gamosa, an Assamese gamosa, an endi jacket, a seleng chador, a jaapi, a bouquet, a xorai, a citation and Rs 30,000 cash. The award was presented to Gohain by the former chief justice of the Gauhati High Court, Justice (retd) Dhiresh rayan Choudhury.

Speaking at the award-giving function, veteran jourlist and founder Editor of The Sentinel DN Bezboruah congratulated Borgohain for receiving the award. Bezboruah said: “Borgohain’s news alysis is remarkable. He can include various ethnic groups in his writings.”

Receiving the award, Borgohain said: “I had been working for twelve years in a government job. However, I had to give up the job as I was allured by the ideology of jourlism. This doesn’t mean that I hate government jobs. In fact, that experience helped me a lot while working as a jourlist. I’ve spent 45 years, half of my life, as a jourlist. However, I’m a frustrated man as I failed to render my service as a jourlist the way I had wanted. The jourlists often fail to render their full potential. One of the reasons behind it is that they’re very poorly paid. The meagre amount they get doesn’t let them keep their ideology intact. This is why jourlism in Assam is lagging behind at the intertiol level. We’ve failed to serve the very purpose for which we joined the press. Corruption has gobbled up entire society. Principles and ideology are a must for jourlists and that they should be able to find out what’s true. I want to spend rest of my life as a jourlist. Only a great goal makes a jourlist script a success story. I wish the wellbeing of the jourlists of Assam.”

A souvenir was released by writer Pari Rongpi on the occasion.

Meanwhile a collection of poetry – Asomiya Limarik – written by Pradip Kumar Barman was released at the function. Noted poet nda Singh Borkola released the book.

An Assamese translation of Animal Firm of Jory Worwelor — Kisuman Anotkoi Besi Soman – by Girish Dutta was also released on the occasion by writer Monikuntala Bhattacharya.
