Boycott BJP: Appeals AABYSF

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 17: Stating that the BJP led Union government has deceived the six ethnic communities of the State, as well as the Bengali Hindu’s, the All Assam Bengali Youth-Students’ Federation (AABYSF) has appealed the people to boycott the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Addressing a press meet at Dispur Press Club, AABYSF president Deepak Dey and spokesperson Joydeep Das slammed the BJP and said, “The BJP which made many promises to the people of Assam before the Lok Sabha election failed to deliver a single promise they made and is now using the same trick again. Before the Lok Sabha election they said that they will give ST status to the six ethnic communities (Chutia, Tai Ahom, Moran, Muttock, Koch Rajbangsi and Chah Jagusti) and also accord citizenship to the Bengali Hindu’s, but after coming to power, they have been changing their stand on according ST status nor they have fulfilled their promise to give citizenship to the Bengali Hindu’s.”

The AABYSF leaders further added, “Since they have deceived the people of the State by failing to keep the promises they made, we have decided to boycott them in the upcoming Assembly elections.”

“We are hopeful of the Congress, but we have witnessed that the Congress party has not given adequate seats to the Bengali Hindus. In the first list, they have deprived Bengali Hindu’s in Dibrugrah, Tinsukia where we are in majority. Now they are conspiring to deprive us in Lumding and Boko. So, we appeal the Congress to give candidature to former president of AABYSF Sukumar Biswas in Lumding,” they said.
