BSF jawans celebrate Diwali with civilians

GUWAHATI, Oct 30: In what can best be said as an example of army-civilian harmony, civilians were seen to have celebrated Deepawali in the city yesterday.

Under the aegis of Aarani, a social organization located at Maligaon here, a Deepawali celebration programme was organized at Kamakhya in collaboration with the inmates of the BSF transit camp there. The jawans, who have been staying away from their families for the security of the tion, had the taste of mingling with the civil society. They sang a number of patriotic songs and took part in the cultural programme actively. They also took part in a number of competitions organized on the occasion. They were given away prizes by Aarani.

As part of the celebration all the sides of the campus was lighted with earthen lamps. The NGO gave away gift packets comprising a gamosa and packets of sweet to each of the local Kumars (potters) in the area at the programme opened by BSF SI JP Singh.     Social worker Utpal Dey Tarafdar, Ashok Bharali, Aarani adviser Subrata Das and a large number of local people took part at the programme.
