Bus services fail to cope up with rush

GUWAHATI, April 11: The transportation facilities in the state, both the government-owned ASTC and private travel agencies, failed to cope up with the heavy rush of passengers on the eve of Bihu. According sources, all tickets of the over 650 ASTC buses from Guwahati to different destitions have been booked till April 13. The situation in private travel company buses is no different. Passengers who are arriving in Guwahati from elsewhere in the country now are not getting tickets.
Paltan Bazar ASTC Yard Master Ranjan Goswami said that if there is rush of passengers the corporation will ply more buses.
Some passengers alleged that they had to face problems following cases of issuance of same seats against two passengers. Agents of private travel agencies said that such cases may happen as the agents are working in different areas in the city. “However, in the Bihu rush, the passengers should be accommodative,” they said.
Some passengers who arrived from Cheni said: “Proper online ticket booking facilities can do away with last-time problems for passengers who come from outside the state.”
