GUWAHATI, March 31: Thousands of people thronged automobile (two-wheeler) showrooms in Guwahati today, the penultimate day for sale and registration of Bharat Stage (BS-III) engine. The last date for sale and registration of BS-III engine is April 1.
People thronged showrooms of Honda, Hero, Bajaj etc., from the wee hours of the day and inquired of the respective documents necessary for buying two-wheelers.
“What’s unusual today was reduction sale of Activa Scooter. Since there’ll be no sale and registration of BS- III engine automobile from April 1, Activa scooter is sold with a discount of around of Rs 18,000. Motorcycles are on discount of around Rs 20,000 or more. We’re running short of stock and many customers returned empty handed. As many as 2000 customers thronged our showroom today,” Honda salesman Rajib Dutta said.
The Honda showroom at Beltola sold off all two-wheelers, 8 Activa scooters and 7 Unicorn motorcycles before 12 pm.
“The news was a boon for me. I rushed to the nearest Bajaj showroom to buy a motorcycle, before the showroom even opened its shutters,” Munin Goswami, a buyer, said.  A bench of judges comprising Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice Deepak Gupta earlier pronounced the unrelenting verdict saying that sale and registration of BS- III engines would be banned from April 1 keeping in view the deteriorating air quality.
