Byrnihat Police busts fake note racket

DIMORIA, Sept 11: Byrnihat police busted a racket involved in making and circulating fake currency notes at Rongcha Ko along the Assam-Meghalaya border last night. Besides arresting seven people, the police also seized materials used in ‘minting’ notes from their possession. Fake currency notes were also seized from the seven people.

According to the police, acting on a tip-off they raided the house of Kanchi Shooting alias Babul Ali at Rongcha Ko last night, and busted the racket. The seven arrested in the operation have been identified as Monirul Ansari, Ismail Ali, Mash Gogoi, Firoj Kant, Raju Lama, Inbuk Chetan and Hanidul Ali. Hanidul is from Noonmati in Guwahati.

The police also seized three vehicles used by the racket – a Bolero (AS23P7541), a Polo car (ML10A8055) and a Chevrolet (As18B8114) – besides their mobile phones. The police also seized samples of fake notes with a face value of Rs 60 lakh. The police have been continuing their operation. The arrested people are being grilled.

Circulation of fake notes has been rampant in the State. In such a situation, the breakthrough made by Byrnihat police is a major success.
