Cancel licenses of two bars: OXA

GUWAHATI, Jan 2: Oikya Xe Axom (OXA) has demanded of the State administration to cancel the licenses of two bars on the GS Road that were found violating the rules set by the administration.

Talking to the media in the city today, OXA general secretary Sahidul Islam said: “We did raise the demand before the civil and police administrations of the city not to allow any nudity in the me of New Year celebrations. On December 31 night, with prior information to the police, we did inspect the bars on GS Road. We found two bars violating the rules set for them by the administration, including the closure of bars after 12.30 at night. When we reached the two bars, a number of bar employees and other youths attacked and beat us up. They even tried to kill our vice-president Farukh Khan and beat our president yanmoni Saloi with an iron rod. We lodged a complaint with Dispur police station at night. We demand immediate arrest of people who attacked us, and cancel the licenses of the two bars for violating the directives issued by the administration.”

Islam further said: “We lodged another FIR at Bhangagarh police station today. We also met the Guwahati Police Commissioner who asked the DCP to inquire into the incident.”
