Cancel TE labourers' wage: ATTSA

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, May 16: The Assam Tea Tribe Students' Association (ATTSA) staged a two-hour sit-in strike at Dighalipukhuripar in the city in support of their demand for hiking the daily wage of tea estate labourers in the state up to Rs 300. The ATTSA also sent a memorandum to the Chief Minister in this regard.
ATTSA general secretary Pabon Bedia said that the Tea Estate Labourers' Act, 1951 should be implemented in Assam. "The tea garden workers of Assam have been lagging behind on all fronts mainly because the garden owners have been exploiting them badly. The ACMS and the CCPA have washed their hands of by fixing the daily wages of tea garden labourers at Rs 115. This is quite out of sync with the inflation in the state and the country. We demand immediate cancellation of the daily wage fixed by the ACMS and the CCPA," he said.
