Capacity-building training of IWT staff, crews

GUWAHATI, Nov 5: Following a directive from Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, the Directorate of Inland Water Transport, Assam is going to conduct a three-day-long training programme for capacity building of IWT staff and crews engaged at Majuli-based ferry services, from November 7 to 9 at North Kamalabari Xatra, Majuli.

The training is mainly on hospitality and public relations of IWT staff, cleanliness, safety and rescue during IWT fleet, training on Inland Vessel Act, identification of river route and marking, maintence of marine engine, documentation for ferry operation, control and magement of ferry rule etc. The Deputy Commissioner, Majuli will iugurate the training camp where the Xatradhikar of Auniati Satra Pitambar Deva Goswami will grace the occasion as the guest lecturer. The Xatradhikar of North Kamalabari Xatra  Jardan Deva Goswami will preside over the iugural programme.

IWT Director Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury  will attend the programme along with officers from IWT headquarters and from IWT’s Dibrugarh division and Jorhat subdivision.

The technical training will be imparted by the Training Superintendent of IWT, Crew Training Centre (CTC), Guwahati along with his team. The IWT Directorate will take initiative for such type of training programme at other parts of the State also as per direction of the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, Inland Water Transport has introduced a free boat service – Boitoroni Xokhee –   between Neamati and Majuli for carrying of dead bodies.
