Cars with expired ALA pass stickers add to crimes!

Some people still use expired car pass stickers issued by the Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) on recommendations by MLAs. Cars with such stickers can evade frisking easily, and as such a section of such cars are used by miscreants to commit various crimes.

GUWAHATI, Sept 29: Do car pass stickers add to the number of crimes in a given state or a country? The response is affirmative, and the very state is Assam.

It has come to light in the State some still use expired car pass stickers issued by the Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) on recommendations by MLAs. Cars with such stickers can evade frisking easily, and as such a section of such cars are used by miscreants to commit various crimes.

This practice by miscreants has come to light recently when a car (AS01AA0967) with an expired pass sticker attached to it was seized at Hojai recently. The car was used by miscreants in looting ATMs.

This revelation has prompted the Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) to ask the State police to make all arrangement for the removal of such invalid car passes so as not to let miscreants misuse them. Talking to newsmen today, ALA Principal Secretary PK Das said: “As many as three car passes were issued against the car (AS01AA0967) that was used by miscreants. The first pass was issued in August 2006 on recommendation by Gossaigaon MLA Majendra rzary, then in July 2009 and July 2010, in both the cases, on recommendation by then MLA Bilasipara East MLA Prasanta Kumar Baruah. The validly of such car passes is six months, and the validity of all the three passes of the car in question has expired.”

Das asked the State police to remove all such old car passes. He also appealed to the people who get such car passes issued to them to remove them as soon as their validity expires.

It may be recalled that Anil Chouhan, a car lifter, was found using a car that had an Assam Legislative Assembly pass issued on recommendation by MLA Rumi th. That recommendation did land the MLA in troubled waters, leading to her arrest.
