By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, February 24: Cartoonist Utpal Talukdar today received the Parag Kumar Das Memorial Award, 2015 from Anima Guha at a simple function. The award was instituted by the Jasadharon, an Assamese daily.

Speaking on the occasion, writer Mayur Bora said: “The problems in Assam are getting piled up even as the number of intellectuals is on the rise. People are found to maintain double standards. Had Parag Das been alive, he wouldn’t have tolerated such behaviours. He wouldn’t  have kept quiet in such an unconscious state in society. People may differ from Parag Das on many issues, but nobody can raise any question regarding his love for Assam.” Anima Guha said: “Parag Kumar Das was a radical jourlist. He laid stress on investigative jourlism. He was in the habit of filing reports only after field visits.”

Receiving the award, Utpal Talukdar said:  “Treading the path trodden by Parag Kumar Das will help solve many problems in the state. I respect his ideology.” The function was presided over by jourlist Shivth Barman.
