GUWAHATI, Sept 4: A person from Jaisagar Chariali, Sivasagar has filed a case (656/17) in Sivasagar police station against one Debojit Roy under non-bailable section for making derogatory comments in a facebook group in the social media against Srimanta Sankaradeva. In Jamot (Vox Populi), a facebook group, Roy made a number of derogatory comments against the 15th century saint of Assam. The comments led Dr. Sabyasachi Mahanta of Sivasagar to file a case against Roy. In his FIR, Mahanta said: “By making derogatory comments on our mentor Srimanta Sankardeva, who is considered to have imposed life on the people of Assam, Roy has insulted the feeling of the people of the State, let alone the mentor. Such a statement is lethal enough to create commul hatred, unrest, commul conflict etc., in the State. With such statements, we feel, Roy has posed a threat to the age-old unity and integrity prevailing in the State. Taking that in mind, I appeal to the police to take action against Debojit Roy and the facebook group for trying to infuse poison to create social hatred and commul flare-up in the State.”
