Catering food at night: A profit-making vocation

GUWAHATI, Feb 17: Night Food Service is here to cater food to people who have to work outdoor till late night. Around six-month-long door-to-door catering service in city since its inception, this has proved to be a vocation that can create job avenues in the State where lakhs of youths have been hankering after white-collar jobs.  Theirs is a restaurant started on a 2bhk flat at Beltola by Amit, Nihar, Alkama, Gaurav and Deben of the city investing just Rs 15,000 each initially. On an average, they get at least ten customers per night. “We wanted to do something of our own. Such kind of night food service is not new to cities like Bangalore and Delhi. Guwahati was lacking its kind, and as such we decided to start one. We operate from 9 pm to 3 am,” Amit Said. “The need of the hour in the city is such night joints. People tend to work till the wee hours. We follow normal restaurant menu – Indian, Chinese, continental and others,” Amit added. “Night restaurants are slowly becoming a necessity. Waking up late is part of the schedule nowadays. Night food service helps those who have no time to make food,” Rahul, who works in a studio, said. “We tend to skip usual hostel meal sometimes. Restaurants offering night food service are an option for us,” Sneha, an inmate of Gyanjyoti Girls Hostel, said.
