Central team shouldn't visit state now: Sarma

GUWAHATI, July 12: State Fince Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the need of the hour is not the visit of any central team as the State has enough funds to tackle the situation.
The minister said this on Thursday while reacting to numerous criticisms targeting the Government at the Centre for not visiting Assam that has been reeling under floods.
“What will the Central team do? We’ve got Rs 250 crore from the Centre now to meet the situation in the State arising out of floods. I’ve asked the deputy commissioners not to be worried of funds. I’ve asked them to spend funds to give the affected people succour,” Sarma said, and added: “If a central tram visits the State now, it’ll pay an aerial visit. When water recedes we’ll have to submit an estimation of damage before the Centre. And as such that’s the right time for the Centre to send a team to the State to assess the damage.”
