Centre and Dispur vow to implement Saubhagya Scheme

 GUWAHATI, Oct 30: Union Minister of State (independent charge) for Power, New and Renewable Energy Raj Kumar Singh called on Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal at Assam Administrative Staff College this evening and held a meeting with him for successful implementation of Saubhagya Scheme in Assam. 

The Saubhagya Scheme was launched by Prime Minister rendra Modi to supply electricity to all households by December 2018 providing free connections to the poor. Sonowal informed the Union Minister that the State Government has already drawn a roadmap for successful implementation of Saubhagya Scheme which aims to give last mile power connections across the state. Sonowal also said that the Power Department is preparing a detailed project report for successful implementation of the Saubhagya Scheme to illumite 25 lakh households in the State. The meeting also discussed Marghertia Thermal Power Project as the Union Minister assured Sonowal of extending all possible help till commissioning of the project. The meeting also discussed feasibilities of smart meters and conversion of all conventiol meters to smart meters in phases. 
Meanwhile, Singh also called on Governor Professor Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan this evening and discussed on issues ranging from power reform and use of conventiol sources of energy. The Union Minister apprised Mukhi of different steps that the Centre is taking in sync with the power department of the State to bring in transformation in the power sector of the State.
