Chakravarty bids adieu public life

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 21: Veteran jourlist-cum-intellectual Dhirendrath Chakravarty has announced his sanyas (renunciation) from public life, leaving jourlists at Guwahati Press Club stunned. Soon after his announcement, Dispur relieved him as the adviser of its mouthpiece ‘Raijor Batori’.

Talking to the media on Tuesday, the veteran jourlist said: “I’m one who talked against the ULFA and continues to talk against the outfit even today. In fact, I’m an enemy of the ULFA. I still stand by my statement that ‘ga miscreants who come to Assam and go berserk should be shot at.”

On noted intellectual Hiren Gohain, Chakravarty said: “Hiren Gohain is a 99.99 per cent intellectual. He can be ranked three from top amongst the intellectuals of Assam. His talent should flourish all over, instead of remaining confined in Assam alone. I want to live 150 years.”
