Cheaters on the prowl, never share ATM details

GUWAHATI, Feb 20: Beware! Cheaters are on the prowl! They are out to cheat whoever they think gullible. They have even made an attempt to cheat State Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Himangshu Sekhar Das.

On February 13, a caller (No. 7763944097) telephoned Das in Hindi. The caller claimed himself to an SBI officer from Delhi and sought Das’ ATM and PAN numbers so as to keep his ATM running. The caller said that the ATM of Das would be out of service since he had failed to submit the documents sought from the SBI.

When searched, Das detected that the call actually came from Joshpor gar in MP against the caller’s claim of telephoning from Delhi.

Sniffing a rat in the entire episode, Das had to communicate the Mager of Dispur branch of the SBI who told him that no such call was made to him from the bank. Das lodged a written complaint with the Guwahati Police Commissioner seeking action against the caller.
