Chhath Puja ends with oblation to rising sun

GUWAHATI, Nov 7: The four-day Chhath Puja, worshipping the Sun God, concluded peacefully today with the offer of oblation to the rising sun by the devotees who were on fast.

Crowds of devotees were seen in various ghats in Guwahati like Shukreshwar Ghat, Fancy Bazar Ghat, Uzan Bazar Ghat, Pandu Ghat, Sunsali Ghat and Bashishtha from 2 am in the city today. The fasting devotees returned their homes after offering their oblation at the dawning sun. Yesterday they prayed before the sinking sun in various ghats in the city.

Chhath Puja began on Friday last. Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal took part in the festal yesterday.

In Guwahati city there were 36 Chhath Puja organizing committees this time around. They made all arrangements for parghats with separate rooms for women to get their dresses changed after having bath in the river. They also made all arrangements for drinking water, CCTV cameras etc.

From the district administration security arrangement was made with the deployment of river police, NDRF and SDRF, fire service, SSB, scouts and guides personnel, besides deployment of medicos. The festivity was by and large incident-free. There were heavy traffic srls in the city today also despite the traffic administration in the district taking special measures to ease traffic congestion.
