Chilarai Path: A problem and a half!

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, June 26: For the residents of Birubari in Guwahati Chilarai Path is a problem and a half! A half-hearted attempt made by the previous government two years back has only worsened the problem for the users of the path by leaving it half-done.
The road has craters. Dangerous are its drains left uncovered here and there, almost everywhere. The width of the drains is also not enough. They overflow when it rains. Since the drains are not covered at different stretches of the road, water with dirt and filth overflows the road when it rains. When there is water-logging the two drains of the path look like traps, posing a serious threat to the users. The draige system there has rendered footpaths on either of its sides useless.
The situation, according to the local people, was not that bad some two years back. However, as though to worsen the situation the GMC started the renovation works of the drains two years back when Abir Patra was Guwahati Mayor. However, the GMC left the renovation work half-done, as though for the local people to suffer.
The people of the locality have been demanding of powers that be at Dispur to complete the renovation work of the drains so as to give them a respite.
