Chilling cold to stay till Magh Bihu!

GUWAHATI, Jan 9: Guwahatians have been feeling the chill to the marrow for the past few days for the Northerly Wind from the Himalayan region entering the Northeast. According to sources in the Region Meteorological Centre, in Guwahati the spine-chilling cold is to stay at least till Magh Bihu.

The maximum temperature in Guwahati on Tuesday was 23.8 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature was 8 degree Celsius. The mercury plummeted as low as 6.9 degree Celsius on Monday. The maximum temperature on Monday was 22.6 degree Celsius. On Sunday the maximum temperature was 19.7 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature was 9.2 degree Celsius. 

When asked on the reason behind the chilling cold in the city, an official in the meteorological centre said: “The Northerly has entered the Northeast from the Himalayan region. The wind is set to keep the chill in the region at least till the Magh Bihu.” When asked if any cold wave is going to sweep the region and Guwahati, the official said: “The chances are remote.” The source said: “On Wednesday, the minimum temperature is likely to be 9 degree Celsius and the maximum to be 23 degree Celsius.”
