CID holds semir on child trafficking

GUWAHATI, Jan 8: The CID branch of the Assam Police today held a semir on ‘Combating Child Trafficking and Child Labour by effective Law Enforcement: Problems, Vulnerabilities and Agenda Setting’ at Assam Police Headquarters at Ulubari here today.

The semir iugurated by DGP Mukesh Sahay was participated by police officers from various districts, NGOs, and officials and representatives from Social Welfare, Labour, Health, Education departments and State Child Rights Protection Commission.  ADGP (CID) R Chandra than spelt out the objective of the semir. At the first session of the semir chaired by tiol Law University Associate Prof. Vijay Pratap Tiwari Lalita Deka, State consultant of ICPS, Social Welfare Department, spoke on ‘State Convergent Plan of Action on Child Labour’ and SP (CID) Indrani Baruah on ‘Introductory Presentation of Human Trafficking in Assam.’

At the second session, chaired by Railway ADGP BJ Mahta, tiol Law University’s Associate Professor Geetanjali Ghosh spoke on ‘Laws and Acts related to Child Labour’ and Snehalaya founder director Fr. Lucose Cheruvalel spoke on ‘Understanding the Juvenile Justice System’.

In the third session chaired by BIEO ADGP Kuladhar Saikia Impulse NGO (Meghalaya) founder chair of board Hasi Kharbhih spoke on ‘Role of Media in Prevention of Human Trafficking’ and KK Handique State University Associate Prof. Anukaran Dutta  spoke on ‘Relevance of Social Media viz-a-viz Human Trafficking’.

The concluding function was attended by Justice AC Upadhayay of the Gauhati High Court as the chief guest.
