Citizens decry negligence by GMC

GUWAHATI, Oct 15: HB Road in the Fancy Bazar area in the city looks like the sorrow of pedestrians, thanks to GMC that dug some drains on the road in the me of creating pedestrians’ zones as part of its beautification project.

After digging the drains on the road the civic left them without doing anything during the entire monsoon, creating problems for the users of the road. The drains dug by the GMC are now filled with garbage that is fraught with creating health hazards. Some planks have been placed across the drains, making the situation dangerous for old people and children. In protest against the situation, the local populace staged road blockades and women groups met the Deputy Commissioner. The DC did assure the women of completing the project before the Durga Puja. The puja is over now, but there is no change in the situation. The people of the locality now demand that GMC should either complete the project soon or leave the road as it was earlier.
