City police on their toes during Diwali

GUWAHATI, Oct 18: The City Police are on their toes to make the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court not to burst crackers from 10 pm-6 am and the stricture under the Environment Protection Act to limit sound of crackers within 125 decibel. Guwahati Police Commissioner Hiren Chandra th said: “We don’t interfere in such holy occasions, and hence the public should feel the importance of the strictures themselves as any violation directly affects patients, infants, oldies and animals. We’re here to keep a close tabs on such issues. All OCs, ICs and DCPs have been alerted. We’ve 24 patrolling vehicles, besides bike riders to meet any eventuality. As many as 683 licenses have been issued for selling crackers in Guwahati.”
