City police station suffers administrative apathy

GUWAHATI, Nov 9: A police station functioning in the heart of the city has been in a precarious condition with idequate facilities for the police personnel. The Hatigaon Police Station, which has few small rooms, has no hygienic washroom and residential quarter for the police personnel.
“The police station is idequate to provide space for the personnel,” a source said. According to sources the police station is running in a rented building which is in poor condition.   “The police station does not have own building and it is running in a rented building,” a police official told The Sentinel. 
Besides the poor condition of the building, manpower shortage has also hit the functioning of the police station.  According to an official, against the 30 sanctioned strength of constable, the police station currently has only 19 constables. “As many as 11 posts of constables are lying vacant in the police station,” the official added.   There is no separate washroom for female cops of the police station. “The police station has also no proper furniture. When visitors step in the police station, they have to struggle to take a seat as the chairs are not in good condition,” added the officil.
