Cleanliness drive begins afresh

GUWAHATI, Nov 23: With the observation phase of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan being underway to rank different cities of the countries on the basis of their cleanliness, GMC started cleanliness drives afresh in the city. Four cities of Assam – Dibrugarh, gaon, Tezpur and Guwahati – are included in the tiol ranking.

A team led by Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania and comprising GMC Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner and others took part in a cleanliness drive at Fancy Bazar in the city today. Public toilets and nearby areas on MS Road in the area were cleaned today. The GMC appealed to the public to extend their help in keeping Guwahati clean so that it can earn a good position in the tiol ranking. Ward No. 9 Councilor Rajkumar Tiwari, area sabha member bal Kishore More and members of citizen committees help the GMC in the drive. Tiwari appealed to the public not to drop garbage in dustbins after 8 in the morning and before 7 in the evening.

Last year the cities of Assam were ranked 50th in the country in so far as cleanliness is concerned.
