Cleanliness drive launched at Umanda

GUWAHATI, Dec 22: The tiol Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed at Patgaon in Guwahati in collaboration with Kamrup (M) district administration today launched a cleanliness drive as a part of Swachata Abhiyan programme at Umanda Temple here.

During the campaign, S K Sastri, Commandant 1st BN NDRF along with four officers, 24 Subordite Officers and Deputy Commissioner & Additiol Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) participated. During the campaign NDRF personnel clean the temple premises, disposal of garbage and cleaned common places surrounding the temple. Umanda Temple is a Shiva temple located at the Peacock Island in the middle of river Brahmaputra just opposite the Kachari Ghat in Guwahati.

It is known as smallest inhabited river island in the world.  The Umanda Temple was built in Guwahati in 1594, by the Ahom King of Assam. Among the temples in Assam, this temple is one of the mostly visited one. The devotees as well as the tourists coming to Assam, takes a visit to this temple.
