CM directs survey for need of cold storage

GUWAHATI, March 1: Stating that a strong cooperative movement can work wonders for the economy of the state, Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal directed the officials of the Cooperative Department to prepare a roadmap to give a fillip to its activities.

While reviewing the functioning of the cooperative department in a meeting held in the CM’s conference hall at Jata Bhawan today, the Chief Minister also directed the department to carry out a survey to assess the requirement of cold storage to house the agricultural produce within a fixed timeframe.

“The Chief Minister further directed the Cooperation Department to ensure proper market facilities and storage mechanism to attract the young generation into farming. “The youth will take up farming only if they get handsome return for their produce”, Sonowal added.

Referring to the ever-growing fish requirement of the state, the Chief Minister asked the Fishfed to chalk out a plan to augment fish production to meet up the demand. Sonowal also stressed the need to take adequate measures to preserve the local species of fish as well as production of ormental fish in the state.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the functioning of Assam Cooperative Apex Bank and directed its officials to work in close coordition with different organizations of the government for better market access. He also reviewed various schemes of Assam State Warehousing Corporation and Housefed apart from different ways to rejuvete the Apolo Mill.

Additiol Chief Secretary (Cooperation Department), Commissioner & Secretary to Chief Minister and several other senior officials of the department, Assam State Warehousing Corporation, Housefed and Assam Cooperative Apex Bank were present in the meeting.
