GUWAHATI, March 25: The All Assam Water Resources Contractors’ Association (AAWRCA) today said that Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal failed to keep his promise that the repair of breached and weak embankments in the State would be repaired before the onset of monsoons.
Addressing the press in the city today, Association president Muhi Borgohain said: “In phase 1 only Rs 203 crore has been approved against 98 of 168 SDRF schemes. Hundred per cent progress of work is only in nine schemes. The progress of work is 60 per cent in 27 other schemes, 51-70 per cent in 12 schemes, 26-50 per cent in 31 schemes, less than 25 per cent works in 17 schemes, and the work has been just started in one scheme. There has been retendering in one scheme.” Borgohain said: “In phase 2, Rs 142 crore has sanctioned against 70 schemes, but the work is yet to be started. They are still at the stage of inviting tenders. Rs 200 crore loan against 48 BARD schemes is yet to be sanctioned. The process of inviting tenders should be stopped for that now.”
