GUWAHATI, Dec 28: The speakers at a semir on ‘Bhogali Jalpaan’ held in the city today laid stress on expansion and commercialization of Assamese munchies in the outside world.

The semir was organized by Bhogali Jalpaan with Pabitra Kumar Sarma, who is also the president of the All Assam Police Association, in the chair at Guwahati Press Club today.

Educationist Sanjib Kakati threw much light on various aspects like nutrients found in Assamese delicacies. “Assam is rich in food habits, but blind imitation to western food has dumped our own ones. The members of the new generation in Assamese society barely know what tilpitha, rikal pitha, etc., are exactly like. They’re much inclined to Western food even through our delicacies are richer in nutrients than those.”

Noted social activist Rumi Goswami said: “We shouldn’t limit ourselves to pitha-laroo. We need to break barriers and display our delicacies outside the State and the country. We need to pinpoint in writing the nutrients rich in our cuisines and Bhogali munchies.”
