Committed to implement Assam Accord, says BJP

GUWAHATI, April 10: The BJP has made it crystal clear that it is committed to implement the Assam Accord.

“We always had great respects for the Assam Accord. We are committed to implement the Accord,” State BJP vice president Santanu Bharali said this in a statement issued to the press today.

The BJP leader termed Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi criticizing the BJP on the Assam Accord as a conspiracy. “Gogoi is trying to make a mess of cut-off years – 1971 and 1951 – so as to derive political mileage out of that. This is a political conspiracy. The Congress government should have implemented the Assam Accord, but it accorded no importance to the Accord and kept it aside in the past 15 years,” Bharali said, and added: “However, the BJP is committed to accord importance on the Accord so as not to let the sacrifices of the martyrs of the Assam Agitation go in vain. The BJP has already scripted a new law for the Hindu refugees and is waiting for the required approval. We appeal to the Hindu refugees not to be misled by the recent confusing statements made by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.”
