Compensate crop loss: AASU to Dispur

GUWAHATI, Sept 13: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has said that around 17,418 hectares agricultural land were destroyed in the State by swarming caterpillars and the government failed to fight the mece, sending a hue and cry among the affected farmers.

In a statement issued to the press today, AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said: “The government has to compensate the loss of hard-earned crops of the farmers. We demand Dispur to extend fincial assistance to the affected farmers after conducting a survey of the damage incurred by the farmers. It’s the bounden duty of the government to lead the farmers, who make the foundation of our economy, towards the right direction.”
