Congress, BJP trade charges

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 10: BJP Assam spokesperson Rupam Goswami has accused Congress leader Ripun Bora of being involved in violating the Model Code of Conduct by calling a press meet prior to less than 24 hours before the second phase of polling begins.

Goswami also said that if Ripun Bora had any complaints regarding BJP’s advertisements, he should have filed a complaint with the Election Commission rather than addressing a press meet. Goswami accused the Congress leader of trying to make publicity campaign just hours before the polling starts. The spokesperson also stated that BJP Assam Pradesh had taken prior permission for the advertisement from the authority concerned and was compelled to call a press meet after false allegations were raised against the BJP. Earlier in the day, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) vice president Ripun Bora accused the BJP of violating the model Code of Conduct for the Assembly polls by publishing advertisements in the media even after the closure of campaign for the second phase of polls.
