Congress candidate absconding

GUWAHATI, April 15: Panbazar police station in Guwahati registered a case (135/16) under section 376 and 420 of IPC against Congress’ Kamalpur LAC candidate Pranjit Choudhury based on an FIR filed against him by a model. According to the FIR, Choudhury had been in relation with the model since November 2015 but now he has been shying away from the model. A father two children, the Congress leader took the model to Hotel Brahmaputra Ashoka in the city on the night of April 13. He, however, deserted the girl there and made a quick getaway. The girl made repeated attempts to contact Choudhury but to little avail. At last she had to lodge a complaint with the Panbazar police station on that night.  The Congress leader, according to the FIR, assured the model that he would marry her after the second phase of election. She, according to the FIR, had to abort a foetus once following an assurance of marriage from Choudhury. According to Panbazar police, they went to Choudhury’s residence at Kamalpur but did not get him there. The police asked him to appear before Panbazar police station. The police said that they would have to see the CCTV footage of the hotel where Choudhury allegedly had been with the model, and if her allegations and medical report go against him, he will be arrested soon. Choudhury is absconding.
