GUWAHATI, March 2: The BJP Assam Pradesh has alleged that the Congress is indulging in a false campaign on the white paper on school provincialization tabled by Dispur in the State Assembly on February 27.

The Government tabled the white paper on ‘Provincialization of Services of Employees of Educatiol Institutions under Assam Venture Educatiol Institutions (Provincialization of Service) Act, 2011’.

State BJP spokespersons Rupam Goswami and Subhas Dutta said in a statement today that through the white paper Dispur has clarified the ground reality on provincialization of schools. “There shouldn’t be any politics on the ground situation,” they said, and added: “However, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora has been involved in a false campaign on the issue by making some self-contradicting statements. There was a big bazaar at Kahilipara in the city in the me of provincialization of schools. The mess in the Education Department before the then Education Minister Ripun Bora going to Tihar Jail was beyond control. It was Himanta Biswa Sarma who infused discipline and order in the department. Ripun Bora and the Congress party want the Education Department to remain as it had been during the Congress regime. However, the present dispensation at Dispur wants to go ahead following the RTE Act.”

They said: “Provincialization of schools is an important issue. However, we feel it’s a must to proceed by taking all pros and cons into consideration. Bora’s statement of making geography and history compulsory subjects is laudable. However, why didn’t the Congress do that when it was in power? This government is committed to ensure the educatiol rights of children. This is why this government, soon after coming to power, exempted various fees being charged while filling the admission forms. This year free of cost books are given up to Class IX and X students. In phases, free of costs books will the given to students at the university level as well, besides exemption of fees. This apart, the government has made arrangement for Gunotsav so as to upgrade the standard of education in the State.”
