Congress maintains double standard on NRC: AMDB

 By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 11: Assam Minority Development Board (AMDB) has said that the Congress has been maintaining double standard on NRC – while the leaders of the party in Brahmaputra valley are telling something, leaders of the party in Barak Valley are telling something else. The AMDB has said that this double standard is aimed at certain political interests.
Talking to newsmen in Guwahati on Thursday, AMDB chairman Muminul Aowal said: “Even APCC president Ripun Bora’s role isn’t beyond doubt. Even before the publication of the draft NRC Bora was on record saying that he would take the side of those whose mes would not figure in the NRC. What does it mean? Everybody knows that the me of no genuine Indian will be left out of the NRC. If anything, only the mes of foreigners will find no place in the NRC. Does Bora says that he’s going to take the side of foreigners? The Congress was never in favour of NRC update that progressed only after the BJP coming to power at the Centre and Dispur. The Congress in Assam is jittery only because politics on Bangladeshis will come to an end in the State with NRC update.”
Aowal said: “This is not all. The Congress is jittery seeing the works of the Sarbanda Sonowal-led government in the State. In the past 15 years the Congress government in the State could do precious little.”
