Congress plot to defer DAC polls: AADSU

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, July 18: The All Assam Deori Students' Union (AADSU) alleged that a conspiracy was hatched by the Congress government at Dispur to postpone the Deori Autonomous Council (DAC) elections. The AADSU said that Dispur had to take such a stand to save the ruling Congress from another defeat in election.
The losing streak of the Congress continues ubated in the State.
AADSU secretary Hari Prasad Deori said: "The tenure of present DAC was over on July 11 and as per rule, state election commission (SEC) should have taken steps to conduct the poll within the month. However, as the election commission changed the seats reserved for women, three earlier women members filed a case to continue the earlier seats in Gauhati High Court, and the election procedure was postponed due to stay order given by HC till next verdict. The government took the opportunity of this stay order and postponed the election to the next year, which was done following a conspiracy by the Congress government."
Deori also said: "The postponement of the election by filing a case in the HC is totally unconstitutiol and undemocratic step of the Congress government. We, therefore, demand of the government to hold the DAC poll as soon as possible, otherwise all we will resort to stringent agitation."
