By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 10: As though to keep its nose clean Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has moved Raj Bhawan for a CBI inquiry into the recent episode leading to the arrest of two youths purportedly for hatching a conspiracy to kill State Fince Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The two men were arrested on Friday last. It all started with former minister Rakibul Hussain disclosing it to the DGP that he had got an SMS from an unknown person demanding Rs 5 crore from him for killing State Fince Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The same SMS was also sent to former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, APCC president Ripun Bora and Dulu Ahmed.  Acting promptly, the police apprehended the two men – Fakhruddin Ali and Pawan Ali – both fourth grade employees of GMCH. They were arrested from North Guwahati.

In a statement issued to the press on Saturday, State CLP Leader Debabrata Saikia said: “We want intervention of the Centre to ensure CBI inquiry into the entire episode. The Congress has always been victim of insurgency and terrorism. Former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi are among them. In Assam as well, we has lost a number of our leaders when there was turmoil in the State. The Congress always stands against extremism and violence. There has been an allegation of a conspiracy against four Congress leaders of the State scorching in air. It is projected in some sections of media that these Congress leaders are having knowledge about the conspiracy to kill a Cabinet minister of Assam. This is totally baseless, concocted and self-manufactured.”
