Congress slams Delhi, Dispur over NRC update

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI, Oct 6: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today slammed State as well as Central Government for allegedly neglecting the NRC update work in the State.   Reacting to the media report that the NRC update process is going to be halted due to fund crunch, APCC spokesperson Kishor Bhattacharya in a statement said that this has proved that the BJP governments in the state as well as in the Centre have no interest and sincerity in publishing an error-free NRC in stipulated time.    Bhattacharya alleged that Prime Minister rendra Modi, who before 2014 Lok Sabha polls, had declared that every Bangladeshi tiol will have to leave Assam bag and baggage, has now neglected the NRC update works.  “Actually BJP has no commitment for the people of Assam. By neglecting the NRC update work and not implementing the Assam Accord, BJP government has humiliated the people of Assam,” he said. The Congress spokesperson further said that for Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal and other state BJP leaders, not the wishes and aspiration of the people of Assam but wishes of Delhi is important. The Congress has demanded the government to immediately release fund for the updating work of NRC.
