Congress slams Election Commission

Model code of conduct violation

GUWAHATI, Nov 3: Assam Pradesh Congress today expressed displeasure over the role of Election Commission with regard to model code of conduct violations.

Addressing a press conference here today, Congress leader and former Power minister Pradyut Bordoloi said that despite submitting petitions against the BJP for violating model code of conduct, the Election Commission of India has not taken any action against the saffron party.

“The Election Commission has become a puppet of the Modi government. The BJP government has violated model code of conduct several times by announcing different development projects in the State and we have petitioned the EC but no action has been taken against the leaders of the party, who have violated mode code of conduct,” Bordoloi alleged.

He said that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Sarbadanda Sonowal first violated the model code of conduct by announcing number of mega projects for Assam on October 24.

“Then again Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made some announcement at a public meeting held at Dongkamokam of Baithalangso and violated the model code of conduct. We petitioned EC against this and today also we have met Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in this regard,” Bordoloi said.

“If the EC does not take any action against BJP even after this, we must understand that the EC is working in favor of the ruling party,” he alleged.

He further said that Central government has exposed its fascists character by detaining AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi two times when he had gone to meet the family members of the retired soldier from Harya, Ram Kishan Grewal, who allegedly consumed poison and died in RML hospital on Wednesday morning. Bordoloi further alleged that like Mohammand Jinh and thuram Godse, who believed in ‘two tion’ theory, Himanta Biswa Sarma also hatched a conspiracy to divide the people of the State on religious line. “But we never accepted such theory and will foil such attempts in the days to come,” he added. Taking a dig at Sarma, Bordoloi said that Himanta has started a dangerous game for his political gain.
