Consumer court orders Central Bank of India to pay compensation

Guwahati, July 30: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum Kamrup ordered Central Bank of India to pay compensation Rs. 1, 11,000 to Balen Ch. Das, Sachin Kalita and Bhabesh kalita. The Redressal Forum also ordered to pay the compensation amount within 45 days to the complaints, a press release stated.

It can be mentioned that the complaints Balen Ch.Das, Sachin Kalita and Bhabesh kalita, working as a teacher at Palashbari R.B.H.S. & M.P. School, Mirza, Kamrup availed a loan described as “CENT BUY SCHEME” from Central Bank of India, Bijoygar Branch,Kamrup, Guwahati in 2006. The Bank sanctioned Rupees 1.5 lacs to Sachim Kalita & Balen Ch. Das each and 1 lac to Bhabesh Kalita. It needs to be mentioned that the EMI’s were regularly deducted from their salary every month for 48 months. As per agreement the loan has been totally repaid and there cannot be any outstanding amount payable by them. But the complaints Sachim Kalita and Balen Ch. Das received Rs 53, 712 and Bhabesh Kalita received Rs 12, 053 bank statements as yet to be paid by them.

When they enquired about it, they were shocked to learn that the bank mager without any intimation raised the rate of interest. The complaints filed several representations before the bank authorities but no avail. They also prayed for loan clearance certificate in favour of them as they had already paid 48 EMI. But the bank authority refused to issue the same.

Disappointed, the complaints file a complaint with Consumers’ Legal Protection Forum, a consumer rights body against the Central Bank of India for their deficiency in service and negligence. Hearing their petition, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum Kamrup ordered to pay compensation Rs.1, 11,000/- (Rs. 37,000/- each) to the complaints and liable Central Bank of India for their deficiency in service and negligence as they have failed to take care the rights of customers as they promised.
