GUWAHATI, Feb 24: The Assam State Committee of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), along with the AISF and AIDSO, today staged a demonstration at Dighalipukhuripar in the city against, what is said, the rampaging Alkhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Delhi University.

In a statement issued to the press today, SFI’s Assam Committee president Kashyap Choudhury and general secretary Nirangkush th said: “Following a semir at Ramjash College in Delhi ABVP activists created havoc in Delhi University. The SFI had to take a peaceful agitation against the incident on Wednesday last. ABVP activists, however, attacked the peaceful agitationists. Instead of controlling rampaging ABVP members, the Delhi Police have started harassment on the SFI activists.” The SFI demanded of the government to stop all atrocities by the Sangh Parivar in the country, punishment to the culprits and to save democracy in the campuses of higher education in the country.

Meanwhile, the Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti (CMSS) and the Guwahati Literary Factory staged a programme at Dighalipukhuripar in the city today condemning the activities of the ABVP in Delhi University. GU professor Dr. Dilip Bora, speaking at the programme, said: “The dream of socialism is being smashed in the country now. Commul disparity is taking an ugly appearance now.” Delhi University’s research scholar Jyotirmoy Talukdar said: “No one is allowed to enter Delhi University without identity cards, let alone freedom of speech. The BJP government has stopped a number of scholarships of Arts students, and taken an anti-student attitude.”
