Councillors allegedly assaulted in GMC office, files case

GUWAHATI, Feb 11: Alleging that two of the city councillors were assaulted by the employees of Guwahati Municipal Corporation on Thursday, Jo Rabha, a councillor who was allegedly assaulted has filed a case against the mob at Panbazar police station. However, till filing of this report, the case has not been registered by the police. It has been learnt that, councillors Jo Rabha and Ranjit Barman went to the GMC office on Thursday to meet the commissioner to discuss a government project. However, their vehicle was stopped at the gate and the securities were reluctant to allow entry of the vehicle they were travelling in. This led to a heated argument. Though, later they were allowed to park their vehicle inside the GMC premise, the councillors alleged that a mob of GMC employees attacked them inside the office and inflicted grievous injuries to Jo Rabha, a representation of councillors led by Ranjit Barman, Rajen Das and Mrigen Sarania alleged this in a press meet at Dispur Press Club.
