CPI-M hails SC stand on NRC update

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 14: The State committee of the CPI(M) has welcomed the tough stance taken by the Supreme Court of India on NRC update, and said that the interference from Dispur on the NRC work is unfortute. In a statement issued to the press on Friday, the Left party said that the apex court warned Assam Chief Minister asking him to stay away from the NRC update work. According to the Left party, in the past two years Dispur has been trying to put hurdles on NRC update work. “A few months back, the State Cabinet Sub-committee took a decision to include all Hindu Bangladeshis entering Assam till December 31, 2014, and it is putting pressure on the NRC authority to make that happen,” the Left party said, and added: “Of late Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal himself said that the draft updated NRC would be made public by December 31, 2017.” The CPI-M said that by remaining in power in the State and at the Centre the BJP compounded the NRC problem. “What we want is all Indians should be included in the NRC and the fil NRC should be done within a year,” the Left party said.
